Civil War sites in Georgia are being damaged and adversely affected by development. Georgia Battlefields Association is a private, non-profit organization that works with other preservation groups trying to prevent and reduce the damage.

All members receive Georgia Battlefields, a monthly newsletter.

We hope you will become a member

Your tax-deductible annual dues are used to:

Acquire, study, preserve, and increase awareness of Georgia’s Civil War sites
Sponsor and conduct tours and presentations about Georgia’s Civil War sites
Cooperate with other organizations having compatible objectives


A much too typical example of a historical marker in the middle of a housing development. On 8 July 1864, a Confederate artillery outpost was here, where General Sherman's Federal forces first crossed the Chattahoochee River.	Remnants of an artillery site once occupied by the 15th Ohio Battery in July 1864 while facing Johnston’s River Line in eastern Cobb County.	The 15th Ohio Battery site after construction of a new shopping center in 2004. GBA and other preservation organizations were unsuccessful in attempts to modify the site plan.
